CLUBS AND SOCIETIES: First lady winner of Ilminster Rotary Club’s golf competition

HISTORY was made at Ilminster Rotary Club’s annual charity golf competition when Kim Clarke became the first female winner in its 17-year history.

Kim became the First Lady to win the Rotary Cup since it started in 1999 with an excellent 41 points in the Stableford competition held at Cricket St Thomas Golf Club on the outskirts of Chard.

Kim said that she was very surprised to have won the competition, although organiser David Dick said that the male golfers were somewhat even more surprised that “girl power” had won the day.

But the charity day was another big success and through generous sponsorship from the Cricket St Thomas Golf Club, local businesses, Rotarians and a fantastic tombola a superb total of £1,740 was raised for the charity Horseshoes and Handprints which is based Manor Farm at Stocklinch near Ilminster.CLUBS AND SOCIETIES: First lady winner of Ilminster Rotary Club’s golf competition Photo 2

The charity offers an equine-based therapy service offering fun-based sessions to special needs children, adults and their families – involving grooming, tacking up and decorating the horses, sensory work, and riding.

Desi Fradgley, of Horseshoes and Handprints, said: “I would like to thank the Rotary Club of Ilminster for this wonderful and generous donation.

“Many thanks to all the sponsors and players for supporting the event and obviously a big well done to Kim on winning the competition!”

Mr Dick, of Ilminster Rotary Club, said they would like to thank sponsors Broomhead & Saul for the refreshments and everyone else who supported the competition, especially Cricket St Thomas Golf Club for proving to be a superb venue once again.

Club president Harley Pope was on hand today (Friday, August 5, 2016) at Cricket St Thomas Golf Club to present tournament winner Kim with the Rotary Cup and the £1,740 cheque to Desi Fradgley.
