CLUBS AND SOCIETIES: Warehouse Theatre gets new funding boost

THE Warehouse Theatre in Ilminster got another boost for its fundraising project to enhance its facilities – thanks to the efforts of local performers.

A cheque for £482 was presented to Malcolm Young, of the Warehouse Theatre, from Ilminster Rotary Club president Veronica Horman and Rotarian Brenda Lake with a charity concert held on February 23, 2018, at the Minster church.

The concert featured performances from Serenade and The Belles local choirs, Barrington Ukelele Band, young soloist George Souster and Huw Morgan.

Malcolm thanked Ilminster Rotary Club’s for its very generous donation.

Proceeds from the event will go towards the Warehouse Theatre’s £125,000 expansion plans where the Ilminster Entertainments Society is looking to try and buy the Old Bakery building which is next to the theatre in Brewery Lane.

The extra building will provide much-needed storage for scenery and costumes and at the same time allowing the group to create more rehearsal space and dressing rooms.

A further donation of £552 was also made by Rotarians to the Minster Church in Ilminster with proceeds from the same concert.

Ilminster Rotary Club has also presented £186 to Ilminster Christmas Lights committee chairman Clinton Bonner with money raised during Carol singing around the town’s pubs in the lead-up to last year’s festive season.
