CLUBS AND SOCIETIES: Day at the Races raises funds for Somerset Young Carers

AROUND £600 has been raised for the Somerset Young Carers Project – thanks to the Gold Cup tipsters from the Ilminster Rotary Club.

A Day at the Races was held at Horton village hall on Friday (March 16, 2018) where around 70 Rotarians, supporters and guests gathered to watch the final day of the horse racing Cheltenham Festival on a giant TV screen including the coveted Gold Cup race.

A competition was held to find the Champion Tipster based on the racing results and selections made by the event punters ahead of the first race.

A raffle was also held to help swell the coffers for the Somerset Young Carers Project which offers a range of support and advice for young carers including advocacy, support groups, respite and activities.

Young carers often take on practical and emotional caring responsibilities that would normally be expected of an adult.
