LEISURE: Here’s hoping for a sun-blessed Party on the Park

FINAL preparations are being made ahead of the annual Ilminster Party on the Park event on Sunday (August 27, 2017) with organisers now keeping their fingers firmly-crossed for dry weather.

This year’s event -on Ilminster Recreation Ground on will take place from 12 noon through to 8pm and, as always, it is free entry for party-goers.

The small team has worked hard over the past year to ensure the 2017 event - the fifth Party on the Park - is as action-packed as ever.

The event is put on for local charities, organisations and not-for-profit groups to raise awareness for themselves and much-needed funds.

The party kicks-off at midday with live music through until 8pm. There will as always be a number of food outlets and bars to keep the crowds fed and watered.

Provisionally this year’s event is set to have the most stalls and activities yet with a range of competitions and games for all ages.

Matt Sainsbury, co-organiser of the event, said: “This year we hope to see a number of new groups running activities and we have worked hard to ensure the wide range of activities, music and events during the day will keep the whole family occupied.

“We have increased the children’s area this year including three inflatables and soft play. There will be plenty of chances to take home some good prizes in the various tombola stalls and raffles.

“There will be the chance to win some family bragging rights on the skittle alley or 60 foot assault course, while we are also hoping to confirm the attendance of Battle Tag Archery, a new concept in fitness and fun which is more like nerf guns for the grown-ups!

“The event is non-profit making and therefore does rely heavily on donations and support from local people and businesses.”

Emma Jane Taylor, co-organiser of the event, added: “This year again we have received great support from the town and its people. The event could not continue to grow without this.

“We are, however, a very small team who could do with some more support. If you are interested in helping out on the day or in assisting the organisation of the 2018 party please do let us know.

“We have done all we can at this point to ensure it is as much fun as it can be.

“We have had a great few years even with most of the events receiving rain at some point so it really is fingers-crossed for sunshine this year.

“This is a great opportunity for Ilminster and surrounding area to get together as a community to support their community.”

A full list of the music line up will be available on the Ilminsterpop Facebook page over the coming days.
