LEISURE: Outdoor cinema with Dirty Dancing – nobody puts Baby in the corner!

FANS of the cult film Dirty Dancing will be able to watch it out in the open this evening (Saturday, July 9, 2016) – thanks to the outdoor cinema in Ilminster.
Starlight Cinema – run by local man Paul Bodgers – will be setting up the giant screen at Britten’s Field near to the new Archie Gooch Pavilion in readiness to start the film at 9.30pm.
It will cost adults £9.50 and children £7.50 on the gate to go in and watch the film which has a 12 Certificate.
The 1987 American romantic drama film stars Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey in the lead roles as 17-year-old Frances “Baby” Houseman (Grey) falls in love with dance instructor Johnny Castle (Swayze) while at a holiday romance.
The film also contains one of the most famous lines of the silver screen when in the final dance of the movie dance instructor Johnny says: “Nobody puts Baby in the corner.”
Other films being lined-up for the Outdoor Cinema in Ilminster are Star Wars The Force Awakens (9.30pm) on July 15; sing-a-long Grease (9.15pm) on July 22; Jaws (9pm) on July 29; Mamma Mia (9pm) on August 5; Top Gun (9pm) on August 12; Romeo & Juliet (8.30pmP on August 19; and Harry Potter & The Philosopher’s Stone (8.15pm) on August 26.
It was back in February this year when film fan Paul Bodgers was given initial support by Ilminster Town Council to go-ahead with the open-air cinema.
Tonight’s film could prove a perfect finale following on from Ilminster Town Football Club’s family fun day at Britten’s Field to celebrate the opening of the Archie Gooch Pavilion in Britten’s Field.
