LEISURE: All set for Ilminster Midsummer Experience 2016

FINAL preparations are being made ahead of this weekend’s fantastic Ilminster Midsummer Experience where there will be plenty of fun and activities for all the family to enjoy.
More than 100 amazing flags are already up in the town and now in its ninth year there will be more than 20 events taking place over the weekend ranging from an art exhibition and jazz concerts at Ilminster Arts Centre on Friday (June 10, 2016) followed on Saturday (June 11, 2016) by a Pop-Up exhibition of affordable art by the Whitelackington Art Group in the Minster Rooms, plus the vibrant food and craft market with about 30 stalls selling great local food and crafts in the town centre.
There will also be the Community Drive on Saturday where local good causes will be able to show off their groups, an Open Day at the Warehouse Theatre and all rounded off by a Cream Tea celebrating the Queen’s Birthday at the Minster. For the more energetic the Tennis club is holding a “Taster Day”.
On Sunday (June 12, 2016) there is a whole range of events and activities centred on the Ilminster Recreational Ground.
This includes the hugely popular Classic Vehicle Show which attract in excess of 150 vehicles. This year there will be a “show within a show” featuring “Classics of the Future” electric vehicles ranging from a 1936 Wilson to the futuristic Tesla Saloon S.
The Family Dog Show is always popular and this year there will be great prizes provided by our generous sponsors so come along and impress the judges with your pooch.
There is a great Children’s Fair with inflatables and other games, Heavy Horse rides around the Rec., and the Yeovil Town Band giving a concert of light classics, film music and popular tunes, so bring along a blanket and a picnic.
Better still buy your lunch at the Food Court which this year will be better than ever, with a choice of tempting savoury buns, curries, specialist burgers and savoury and sweet crepes, topped off with Cream Tea and ice cream washed down with specialist tea and coffee.
Another option is to join the Rotary and Twinning Association’s Lunch in the Marquee where for £5 you get to enjoy a superb Cheddar, Brie and Cider lunch with any proceeds going to good causes.
Mixed in with this is the Strolling Garage Sale throughout the town, where people raid their lofts and garages to set up a stall in their driveway and people pick up a map to look for the treasure.
The Bowling Club is throwing open its doors for you to experience all that it offers finally the Minster provides the closing event.
There is also a Queen’s Birthday cream tea in Tesco Courtyard.
Ilminster Experience is a great way to enjoy this vibrant market town so come along and join in the fun.
