CRICKET: A proud sporting day for Ilminster’s Craig Rice

THERE was a special moment at the weekend for well-known Ilminster sportsman Craig Rice when he played league cricket with his two young sons for the first time.
Craig, vice-chairman of Ilminster Cricket Club and still playing first-team cricket in the West of England League despite now being in his late 40s, turned out for the club’s team which appears in the Taunton Sunday League.
The evergreen Craig lined-up in the Ilminster team alongside sons Callum, 13, and eight-year-old Lachlan for the first time ever in their match against Burnham yesterday (Sunday, June 5, 2016) at the Ilminster Recreation Ground.
The Taunton Sunday League allows teams such as Ilminster to give young players a chance to play senior cricket.
And both of Craig’s boys did well with the ball.
Callum took 1-30 off eight overs, while Lachlan chipped in with three overs for just 12 runs.
Rain brought the game to a premature end with Ilminster just 25 runs short of victory.
But, nevertheless, it was another proud sporting moment for the Rice family.
