CLUBS AND SOCIETIES: Ilminster Scouts visit the place where Scouting began

MEMBERS of the 1st Ilminster Scout Group enjoyed a day on Brownsea Island - the birth place of Scouting.
Twenty-eight Beavers, Cubs and Scouts took part in the Brownsea outdoor challenge with many of the activities which Baden Powell – the founder of Scouting - did on his first camp in 1907 on the island which can be found in Poole Harbour off the Dorset coastline.
Time was spent with the families for lunch and the children enjoyed playing football, cricket and building dens.
The group then visited the Baden Powell stone memorial where they renewed their Scout Promises as part of their own 100th year celebrations of Ilminster Scout Group.
The group is always looking for new leaders especially in the Beaver and Scout sections.
