SCHOOL NEWS: Swanmead’s sporting star of the future wins award

A RISING sports star at Swanmead School in Ilminster has been applauded by his peers during the school’s annual Celebration of Achievement Evening.
The school hall was packed with students, teachers, governors and special guests as Josh Key was named as the recipient of the Spurway Cup which is awarded to a promising sportsman or sportswoman at Swanmead.
Headteacher Mark Walker said Josh had represented the school at many sports and was “developing into a great athlete.”
Mr Walker said people should “remember the name” in years ahead.
Guest presenter at the awards ceremony on Wednesday (July 17, 2017) was Somerset County Cricket Club batsman Adam Hose and he presented Josh with the trophy.
Josh was later joined by Swanmead’s very own Sue Spurway, who’s family had given the school the Spurway Cup.
The cup is awarded to the student who has made a significant contribution to school sport, both participating in school teams and involvement in extra-curricular activities.
