SCHOOL NEWS: Still time to see Greenfylde artwork at the Meeting House

ARTISTIC pupils from Greenfylde First School in Ilminster have been wowing visitors at their second art exhibition which has been celebrating and showcasing their talented work.
The children – aged from two to nine – have taken great delight in showing the community their talents using a range of media and proving that the artistic future of Ilminster is flourishing in their hands.
The exhibition at the Meeting House Arts Centre in Ilminster began earlier this month and remains on show until Saturday (May 13, 2017).
The school firmly believes in supporting the holistic development of its pupils and that includes allowing them as wide a range of experiences as possible to let them explore their future potential.
Art has the ability to inspire and enthuse pupils, allowing them a form of expression that can be shaped and explored through their personality and individuality.
Having so many forms, the children need to experience as many mediums as possible to find the form they feel most in tune with and allows them the clearest form of expression.
This year Greenfylde was fortunate to win training and workshops with the Royal Academy of Arts through its National Pupil Premium Award and it has used these once in a lifetime experiences to develop art provision at the school.
Greenfylde headteacher Claire Oaten said: “Art brings out many skills that children can use in other areas of their lives and potentially we are developing a love of art that some will take through to adulthood.
“Art gives our pupils an outlet for their style, emotions and personality, a chance to express and celebrate their individuality.
"It teaches them resilience to keep experimenting until they create the piece they imagined and the ability to see beyond the here and now to envisage a finished piece.
“We were so inspired by our first art exhibition at the Meeting House that we knew this had to become a regular event in the Greenfylde calendar.
"Allowing our pupils to share their work within the wider community shows them the value we have in their work and our belief in them as artists.
“Our thanks go to all at the Meeting House for their valuable advice and we hope many in Ilminster will support our pupils at this exhibition.”
