ILMINSTER NEWS: Dozen donations of support from the Mayor

THE Mayor of Ilminster spread some happiness among a number of local groups and individuals on Tuesday (May 9, 2017) as she dished out donations during the town’s Annual Community Assembly.
It is normal practice for a Mayor to support one or two groups or charities during their year in office by holding some fundraising events, but the Ilminster Mayor, Cllr Val Keitch, said it was “impossible” to select only a couple to back when there were so many valued community organisations in the town.
So she decided to invite applications for a donation of up to £100 and on Tuesday she was able to present 12 cheques totalling nearly £1,000.
The Mayor presented cheques to the Ilminster Swimming Club, Ilminster Air Training Corps, Sunny Ile Pre School, Harlequin Carnival Club, Gemini Carnival Club, Xtreme Carnival Club, Experience Ilminster (Ilminster Midsummer Experience), Iona Davis to help fund her South Africa expedition, Ilminster Scouts, South Somerset Carnival Park Carnival Committee, Gary Clark to help fund his future Disabled Strong Man exploits, and Ilminster Carnival Committee.
All of the recipients thanked the Mayor for her donations during the presentation which took place at Greenfylde First School.
