LEISURE: Jesus Christ Superstar at the Octagon

LAST-MINUTE preparations are being made ahead of Yeovil Amateur Operatic Society’s latest musical show – the amazing Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber production of Jesus Christ Superstar.
The show is being performed at the Octagon Theatre in Yeovil from Tuesday, March 28, 2017, 2017, through to Saturday, April 8, 2017.
This thrilling rock opera takes an impassioned look at Jesus’ last days as it tells the story of holy week from the point of view of Judas, who begins to question the motivations and methods of his friend and mentor.
As well as the title song, it includes many other well known songs such as I Don’t Know How to Love Him, Pilate’s Dream, Herod’s Song, and the heart-rending Gethsemane.
Yeovil Amateur Operatic Society has an excellent cast with Nick Harris as Jesus and Luke Whitchurch as Judas.
There is also a new leading lady with Poppy Rendell taking the part of Mary Magdalene. Poppy is the daughter of well-known YAOS performer Marie Brolly.
The show is being directed by Jeremy Tustin and the musical director is Gill Merrifield.
Tickets are priced £15 to £18 and available from the Octagon Theatre box office on 01935-422884 or online at www.octagon-theatre.co.uk .
