LEISURE: The Great Somerset Colour Run is back with a colourful bang!

THE Somerset-based St Margaret’s Hospice is inviting people to come alive with colour at Wincanton Racecourse later this year for the annual Great Somerset Colour Run.
The racecourse, more used to seeing the sedate colours of racing silks, will explode with colourful powder paint on Sunday, May 21, 2017.
While hundreds of participants run, walk, skip or hop the 5k route, an army of volunteers will be taking aim and throwing brightly coloured paint, making the kilometres race by.
Last year 1,400 people took part, raising over £60,000 which paid for a whole week of community care across Somerset.
Richard Wallace, events manager at St Margaret’s Hospice, said: “We were once again blown away with the amount of people who took part in last year’s Colour Run.
“The amount raised was truly amazing and it was such a wonderful day. This year we’ve moved the run to Wincanton Racecourse and we hope the new location appeal to even more people.”
St Margaret’s provides specialist palliative care to patients and their families in Somerset, who have a lifelimiting illness.
Caring for both cancer and non-cancer diagnoses, St Margaret’s provides high quality and responsive care, in the community and at the two In-patient units in Taunton and Yeovil.
To book your place, visit the website www.st-margarets-hospice.org.uk and search ‘colour run’.
Tickets start from £10 for children and £15 for adults. T-Shirts are available at £5 to collect on the day.
Participants are asked to raise as much sponsorship as possible to help St Margaret’s care for as many patients and their families with a life-limiting illness across Somerset.
A hospice spokesman said: “The Great Somerset Colour Run is an unmissable family event! Whether you sign up as an incentive to keep fit, for a team building session or as part of your summer running programme, we can’t wait to see everyone taking part for such a great cause in such a colourful way.”
