LEISURE: Feed me! Audrey II is a hit at Broadway

MEMBERS of Broadway Amateur Theatrical Society wowed the audiences with their recent production of The Little Shop of Horrors.

The cast put on a superb show as they brought the horror musical about a blood-thirsty carnivorous plant to life at Broadway village hall.

The show centres around flower shop assistant Seymour Krelborn, played by Kieron Wilce, who nurtures the plant he calls Audrey II after his crush on fellow shop worker Audrey, played by Hannah Thurston.

But his life ends in turmoil as Audrey II takes over his world with its unquenchable thirst for human blood.

There were some great performances with Kieron and Hannah, while they were ably supported by the ever-dependable Ben Overd in his excellent and comical portrayal of crazed dentist Orin Scivello.

Plus top marks go to Richard Baker as florist shop owner Mr Mushnik who became one of Audrey II’s victims.

The trio of Nicola Langhorn, Alice Shearman and Lisa Souster kept the show moving as singing narrators, while the close-knit chorus line played their part in the overall success of the show.

And Hannah Cumming should take a bow as the booming voice of Audrey II with the help of puppeteers Heidi Warren, Lorna Warren and Lily Cumming.

Director Jo Warren said: “The BATS cast are getting stronger and stronger each year and it has been an absolute pleasure to work with them all again.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank backstage, costume, prompt, sound and lighting crews who whole heartedly supported our amazing cast.

“An extra special thanks must go to Christine Trueman, our producer, who worked tirelessly to create a fabulous set and bring ‘the plant’ to Broadway.”
