SCHOOL NEWS: On the run for cross country at Holyrood

HOLYROOD Academy in Chard welcomed 143 local primary school pupils to compete in the annual cross country event held in the academy grounds.

The children raced against one another in their respective categories and were led around the courses by the very enthusiastic Liam Wollington and Kenan Dunn from Holyrood’s Sixth Form.

The talent of such young children was clearly evident, with some races being fiercely fought right up to the finish line during the event held on Tuesday, November 8, 2016.

Congratulations to Tatworth who won the 1,000metres Years 3&4 Cup and to Combe St Nicholas who won the 1,400metres Years 5&6 Cup.

School sports co-ordinator, Rich Evans, said:  “I would like to thank Avishayes, Buckland, Combe, Manor Court, Neroche, Redstart and Tatworth and for taking part and for supporting competitive sport events such as these.

“It is such a great opportunity for local children to represent their schools and enjoy an afternoon of exercise and team spirit!”
