SCHOOL NEWS: It’s obvious – pupils who cycle should wear a safety helmet

PARENTS of pupils at Swanmead Community School in Ilminster are being urged to make sure their children wear safety helmets when cycling to school.
The school has noticed a significant increase in the number of children cycling and using scooters to get to school.
The increase has been welcomed at Swanmead although it has seen the bike shed at the school become rather busy.
But headteacher Mark Walker, speaking in the latest school newsletter, said: “Although we are unable to enforce this, we do recommend to parents that children wear a cycle helmet to school if they choose to travel by this means.
“I know that the reasons for promoting this to parents are very obvious and we strongly suggest that this occurs.”
