CLUBS AND SOCIETIES: Ilminster Lions present cheque to Musgrove children’s unit

MEMBERS of Ilminster Lions Club have presented a £1,000 cheque to the neonatal intensive care unit at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton which cares for premature babies.
Dr Chris Knight gave Lions Club members an extremely informative insight into the work of the unit and the use of incubators and special heated mattresses including the very specialised equipment for premature and jaundiced babies.
Six rooms are available for parents to use when babies are first admitted and can be used to spend time with them before preparing to take them home.
Staff attempt to create a homely atmosphere and make the rooms as comfortable as possible to help to alleviate a clinical atmosphere.
Dr Knight thanked Lions Club president Alan Rudkin and the members for their most generous donation.
