SCHOOL NEWS: Chairman of governors shows you are never too old to learn

THE former proprietor of the Shrubbery Hotel in Ilminster has proved that you are never too old to learn – having today (Thursday, August 18, 2016) found out that he has passed an A-Level exam.

Stuart Shepherd, who is chairman of governors at Wadham School in Crewkerne, joined the ranks of young people this morning at the school to receive his results even though he was slightly more of a “mature student” having celebrated his 75th birthday in February this year.

And he was delighted to find out that he had passed his A-Level history exam with flying colours with Wadham achieving an overall 98 per cent success rate.

Mr Shepherd had joined students in class in preparation for his exam and said that he had thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the challenge it had presented.

He congratulated everybody at Wadham – students and teachers – on their efforts and results.

Mr Shepherd is now considering the possibility of returning to school in September to study for an A-Level in Government and politics.

Some of Mr Shepherd’s colleagues on Ilminster Town Council might give a wry smile at the subject of his next potential A-Level target.

Mr Shepherd and his wife Liz had been at the Shrubbery Hotel for more than half-a-century before recently  retiring.
