SCHOOL NEWS: A-Level results delight at Wadham School

SIXTH-FORM students at Wadham School in Crewkerne have excelled this year in achieving a 98% pass rate.

Henry McNulty, head of Sixth-Form, said: “We are delighted that almost without exception our students have secured a place at their first choice university and 25% of our students will be heading for courses at the more selective Russell Group institutions.

“We are very proud of our students and the results reflect their commitment and hard work over the past two years.”

A total of 80% of results were at A* to C grade, whilst just under 50% of grades were at A* to B. The average grade achieved by students in each subject was just below a B.

A special mention should be given to Gabbi Amor, Joe Bateman, Aku Butler, Daisy Goddard and Mikaela Samways who achieved a clean sweep of A* to B grades in their subjects.

Mr McNulty added: “We are delighted that Joe Bateman really thrived in our 6th form and achieved significantly higher grades than those predicted based on his GCSE results.” SCHOOL NEWS: A-Level results delight at Wadham School Photo 3

But it is not all about university placements. A number of Wadham students have secured apprenticeships with leading companies including EDF and Leonardo-Finmeccanica, better known to most as Westlands.

Wadham School places a strong emphasis on preparing students for life beyond school and helping them to make the right career choices which culminated in the school achieving the Investors in Careers accreditation this July.

Amongst the students collecting their A Level results was chair of school governors, Stuart Shepherd, who studied alongside pupils to achieve a pass in history. Inspired by his success he is considering returning to take an A Level in Government and Politics.

Acting Headteacher Matthew Gardner congratulated all the students on their success.

“I wish our students all the very best with moving on to university, starting apprenticeships or moving directly into employment,” he said. “I’m also highly appreciative of my team of dedicated teaching staff and to the parents for their tremendous support and encouragement.”
