SCHOOL NEWS: Cathy Tremaine now stands alongside Mother Teresa and Boris Yeltsin

MANY present and former students of Wadham School in Crewkerne have been offering words of best wishes to teacher Cathy Tremaine who has just retired after an amazing 35-year teaching career at the school.

A special celebration was recently held for Cathy and her colleagues and also present were members of the Rotary Clubs of Ilminster and Crewkerne.

The Ilminster club’s president, Linda Piggott-Vijeh, presented Cathy with a special award to mark her long-standing relationship with the club.

For more than 20 years Cathy has, along with Rotarian Roy Pickett, been responsible for organising one of the most important activities carried out by the club in undertaking its work with young people.

Each year all Year 11 students are given the opportunity to receive guidance and advice during practice interview sessions to prepare them for the working environment.

The Paul Harris Fellow Award, named after the Founder of Rotary International, is the highest award that can be bestowed upon an individual and it is unusual for it to be granted to a non-Rotarian.

The award is given 'in recognition of tangible and significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world', and in receiving this highly prestigious award Cathy joins the likes of Mother Teresa and Boris Yeltsin.
