SCHOOL NEWS: Children quiz councillors on Ilminster’s future

MEMBERS of Ilminster Town Council were put under the spotlight again by local school children during their regular Question Time sessions.
The Mayor, Cllr Rose Neave, and Cllr Sophie Storey, along with town clerk Joy Norris, were grilled by children from Greenfylde First School and Swanmead School in Ilminster and Wadham School at Crewkerne.
The children had a range of questions wanting to know about many key Ilminster developments including the planned work for the Ilminster Recreation Ground
Claire Oaten, headteacher at Greenfylde First School, said: “It is wonderful to see how much these young citizens care about their home town.
“They are genuinely interested in what is happening around them and appreciate the time both the Mayor and Cllr Storey have given to listen to their ideas and views.
“Many adults may be surprised by what the children want to know about and whilst they do want to know about the development of play facilities at the Rec, they also wanted to find out more about how the town itself is marketed and how the town can attract a wider range of businesses.
“Ilminster has some very astute future citizens and all the schools are proud of the ideas and questions the children brought to the councillors today.”
