CLUBS AND SOCIEITES: Branston visit for 1st Ilminster Beavers

THE Ilminster Beavers were treated to an exciting tour of the Branston potato factory at Seavington as part of the national Farm to Fork project.

Twenty-five Beavers visited Branston’s South West site to learn everything there is to know about potatoes as part of the Farm to Fork initiative backed by Tesco.

The tour gave the Beavers the opportunity to learn how potatoes are washed, graded and packed before getting delivered into stores and ending up on their plates at home.

Helen Lancaster, 1st Ilminster Beavers leader, said: “I would like to say a big thank you to Branston for a very informative tour.

“It was well organised and an extra bonus for the Beavers to have a go at sorting the potatoes, given drinks and biscuits, handouts, pen and a bag of potatoes.”

Branston is a long-term supporter of the Tesco Eat Happy Project, which aims to encourage children to have a happier and healthier relationship with food. 

Ian Wait, Branston’s operations director, added: “We were delighted to welcome the Ilminster Beavers to our factory.

“At Branston we think it’s really important that children understand where their food comes from. We hope that showing children the factory will help them to see potatoes as more than just their mash at dinner!”
