SCHOOL NEWS: Pupils excited by new playground plans

IDEAS and thoughts abounded when Greenfylde First School and Swanmead School pupils were invited to look at the new playground plans for the Recreation Ground in Ilminster.

Cllr Sophie Storey, of Ilminster Town Council, and the town clerk, Joy Norris, met with the young people during an afternoon at Greenfylde so that the young people could be among the first to see the plans.

It was explained to them that the plans might take a number of years before they come to fruition fully, but that did not stop the enthusiasm for the project.SCHOOL NEWS: Pupils excited by new playground plans Photo 1

Greenfylde headteacher Claire Oaten said: “The children were fascinated by the plans and enjoyed finding out what may be happening to an area that is very important to them in their home town.

“The plans received a very positive response from the pupils and they even engaged in discussions about which areas they would like to see developed first depending on funding being available.”

On the same afternoon, Cllr Storey was also able to share the plans with parents coming to collect their children from Greenfylde and the pupils took back copies of the plans to share with their fellow students in the schools.

Ms Oaten added: “All agreed that this was a very exciting prospect for Ilminster and the children are now waiting to see what final decision will be made for this area.”
