CLUBS AND SOCIETIES: Ilminster ATC welcomes high ranking visitor

CADETS at the Ilminster squadron of the Air Training Corps welcomed a very important visitor earlier this week to their headquarters.

THE former Chief of the Air Staff of the RAF, Air Chief Marshal Sir Peter Squire, in his role of Wing President of the Devon and Somerset Wing Air Training Corps, regularly visits squadrons and takes a keen interest in the training of Air Cadets. He visited the Ilminster squadron on Tuesday (February 23, 2016).

Sir Peter performed an inspection of the cadets on parade, taking time to talk to everyone and then viewed the flight simulator, models and trophies before watching a presentation by the senior cadets on the future aims and activities of the Ilminster squadron.

He also presented awards and badges to a number of cadets during the final parade and gave a talk afterwards saying how impressed he was with the appearance of the cadets- particularly their highly polished shoes and hoped that they would enjoy the many activities that they will do in the cadets over the coming years.

The Ilminster squadron will be opening the doors to prospective cadets, both males and females, who would like to join the organisation.

Age requirements are older than 12 and in Year 8 at school up to age 17 years.

On Thursday, April 14, 2016, the squadron will hold a new intake evening and if anyone is interested in joining and would like more information, please contact the Commanding Officer, Flight Lieutenant Colin Parkinson either by telephone on 01460-57055 on Tuesday or Thursday evenings between 7.30pm and 9.30pm or by email oc.2381@aircadets.org.
