SCHOOL NEWS: Outdoors for learning numbers

THE Sunny Ile Pre School - part of Greenfylde First School in Ilminster - has been busy this week learning about numbers using natural resources.
The children used sticks. stones, insects and the mud kitchen to increase their knowledge in the theme of numbers.
Cheryl Herrick, Sunny Ile Pre School leader, said: “Learning outside the classroom gives children contact with the natural world and offers them experiences that are unique to outdoors, such as direct contact with the plants, animals and the seasons.
“We are so lucky to have a use of such inviting learning areas such as our Forest School and Mud Kitchen.
“We are currently fundraising to provide more resources for our outside area, as our children are outside every day.
“We love seeing the enjoyment, sense of wonder and excitement that is generated when children actively engage with their environment."
