SCHOOL NEWS: Youth democracy at work in Ilminster

ILMINSTER democracy youth style was in force this week when representatives from the area’s schools had the opportunity to pose questions about their home town to the Mayor, Cllr Val Keitch.
Pupils from Greenfylde First School and Swanmead School from Ilminster were joined by students from Wadham School at Crewkerne.
A strong theme to the questions was around play and leisure with youngsters enquiring about the provision for play in the Swanmead Drive area and any plans to develop provision at the Rec or on Herne Hill with a walking trail.
The young people had lots of ideas and even tried to persuade the Mayor about the benefits of geocaching.
As part of the afternoon the Mayor set the children the challenge of imaging what they would do for Ilminster if they were Mayor for the day.
All the children welcomed the opportunity to ask questions and thanks go to Cllr Keitch and town clerk Joy Norris for supporting this activity.
