SCHOOL NEWS: Pupils become NSPCC Helpers at Neroche

NEROCHE Primary School near Ilminster has signed up to a national training programme being run by the NSPCC to promote both child protection and keeping children safe.

Prior to the NSPCC Outreach Workers presentations being made to the children in school in two assemblies, one to 90 infants and one to 108 juniors, the NSPCC had visited the school to meet with Neroche’s 12 child school councillors. All 12 children have been trained to be NSPCC Helpers in the school.

The cchool’s child NSPCC helpers have badges to wear and their role is to promote other children to “Speak out” if they have any worries and to follow “Buddy’s” examples.

Ella, a Year 2 NSPCC Helper, said: “We want to help children to speak out; you can’t carry lots of worries on your back.”

Neroche School’s councillors have chosen the NSPCC as their charity for the year and will be organising fundraising events for the NSPCC during the year.

Headteacher at Neroche, which is based at Broadway just outside Ilminster, said: “Child Protection and Safeguarding is the No.1 priority for all schools and we were delighted at the quality and maturity of our children’s responses to the presentations by the NSPCC and very impressed at the impact the NSPCC have made on our children.”
