Wadham headteacher David Derbyshire gave a welcome address highlighting the importance of the relationship between students, the school, parents and the community.

He outlined how the school encourage every student to be the best they can possibly be through cultivating a positive attitude to learning, mutual respect between students and adults and high teaching standards.

Mr Derbyshire said he was delighted with this year’s GCSE exam results which saw a 15% improvement in students achieving A*-C in Maths and English to 73% and students achieving five or more subjects at A*-C grade including English and maths up 10% to 63%.SCHOOL NEWS: Doors are opened at Wadham Photo 2

Performance at A-Level was also up with every student applying for university attaining a place; first choice in most cases.

Students also gained apprenticeships at reputable local companies, helped by the strong relationship the school has built up with local employers.

Recently enrolled students Chloe and Noah described their first three weeks at Wadham. They talked through the induction process and enthused about their favourite subjects, how easy it had been to make new friends and the range of activities on offer. New students appreciate the sense of responsibility and independence they are given, where they feel they are treated like young adults.

Mr Derbyshire said that the Sixth Form added to the mix making a real difference to the feel of the school.

He introduced Will Skinner, president of the Student Team, who explained differences he found in his transition to the Sixth Form.

He spoke about the many extracurricular activities including student trips, Children in Need events, the panto, the Christmas meal and The Rotary Chef Competition.

Visitors then had an opportunity to view the school facilities, meet teaching staff and view the work of pupils on student led tours of the school, which included a number of interactive displays.
