ILMINSTER NEWS: Lidl store coming to town?

DISCOUNT supermarket chain Lidl has said that it is interested in opening a store in Ilminster.
There has been some speculation locally recently that the discount store has been looking at venturing into the town.
Not surprising is the fact that the company has remained relatively tight-lipped about the rumours – although it has admitted having Ilminster in its sights.
A spokesman for Lidl said: “Ilminster is an area of interest for Lidl, but we have no sites confirmed at this time.”
The Mayor of Ilminster, Cllr Val Keitch, said she had heard the speculation locally about Lidl wanting to come into the town.
But she added: “I have heard nothing to substantiate the rumours.”
The first Lidl stores were opened in Germany in 1973 and by the 1990s it started opening stores in other parts of Europe with its first in the UK in 1994.
It has gone on to become a leading discount retailer in the UK and has a network of more than 600 stores in this country.
Could Ilminster be among the locations for its next wave of Lidl stores?
