SCHOOL NEWS: Greenfylde celebrates the work of Roald Dahl

PUPILS at Greenfylde First School in Ilminster have celebrated the anniversary of what would have been the 100th birthday of much-loved children’s author Roald Dahl.
They took part in a number of activities on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, from painting peaches, to designing new chocolate bars, and the day culminated in some Year Fours reading news from The Dahly Tale at the end of the day in a celebratory assembly.
Stories included, a visit to a chocolate factory, an enormous peach, and a trio of very angry farmers whose prize winning products were being stolen by a fantastic fox.
Roald Dahl died in 1990 at the age of 74, but had he lived he would have been 100 on September 13.
He is best known for his children’s books including The Witches, George’s Marvellous Medicine, Matilda, The BFG, Fantastic Mr Fox Fox, Danny the Champion of the World, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach and The Twits.
Dahl also wrote a number of screenplays for films including the James Bond movie You Only Live Twice and the ever-popular musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
