SCHOOL NEWS: Unlocking the secrets of the BFG

A THIRD of children from Neroche Primary School took park in Ilminster Library’s Summer Reading challenge.
The children were set to task to read at least six books and “unlock the secrets of the BFG.”
Sixty-one children from Neroche School, which is based at Broadway near Ilminster, read an impressive 384 books over the summer!
Each child who completed their six-book challenge received a gold reading medal and certificate from the library.
Headteacher Connel Boyle said “It was great to find out that a third of our children were supported by their families to get out and visit our local Ilminster Library.
“We are so grateful to Lynne and the staff from Ilminster Library who give our children such a warm welcome for their visits. We are aiming to read over 400 books next year!”
The BFG – Big Friendly Giant – is a 1982 children’s book written by Roald Dahl based around a young orphaned girl named Sophie who becomes friends with the larger-than-life BFG.
