SCHOOL NEWS: New outdoor gym officially opens

THE Mayor of Ilminster, Cllr Val Keitch, helped to officially open a new outdoor gym for children at nearby Neroche Primary School.
The scheme was funded from an £8,000 grant from Tesco’s Bags of Help Scheme and a £2,000 contribution from Neroche School’s own governing body at Broadway.
The new gym includes a rowing machine, cross trainer, exercise bike including wheelchair adaptations double sit up bench, press up bars and a balance beam maze.
The equipment additionally incorporates QCR Reader Codes for the children to use the school’s I Pads to access demonstrations of exercise routines online for the equipment and also to aid the children in designing their own bespoke fitness routines.
Cllr Val Keitch, Mayor of Ilminster, and Cllr Linda Jones, of Broadway Parish Council, officially opened the new gym for the school and were treated to demonstrations from the children using the equipment.
“It is so wonderful to see a school with so many Ilminster children being so pro-active in promoting healthy living,” said Cllr Keitch.
Cllr Jones added: “It’s great to see such excellent facilities at Neroche Primary School and our thanks to Tesco for its community funds.”
Year Six teacher Miss Humphries said: “This new equipment has transformed our playtimes and also gives us wonderful opportunities to develop PE even further in the school, using the most up to date technology to give our children the crucial Wow Factor in PE!”
Year Five pupil Luke, pictured on the cross trainer, who demonstrated the cross trainer to the Mayor, said: “When you start, this is really easy, but after a few minutes you can feel your heart pumping!”
