SCHOOL NEWS: Gym-tastic pupils show off their skills

A GROUP of children at Greenfylde First School in Ilminster took part in a gymnastics competition held at the Orchard Gymnastics centre in Yeovil.
Around 90 children from all different schools from across Somerset took part and it gave the Greenfylde youngsters, who had spent time with specialist coach Germaine Tuff, the opportunity to show off a routine they had learnt.
At the competition, each child bravely took their turn to perform the routine, as well as a short sequence on a balance beam, in front of the gymnastic coaches. Each child was scored and a team total calculated.
Headteacher Claire Oaten said: “The children performed brilliantly and their hard work really showed.
“They enjoyed seeing everyone’s performances and learned a great deal from watching other talented gymnasts too.
“Some of the children from Greenfylde will be taking part in the next phase of the competition this week.”
