ILMINSTER NEWS: Jacalyn wins a fantastic bronze at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show

THERE have been celebrations at Cottage Flowers in Ilminster after super-talented Jacalyn Arscott scooped a bronze award at the world famous RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
The prestigious show – being held this week from May 21-25 within the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London – only has exhibitors who have worked incredibly hard to be there and can be classed as the “cream of the crop.”
The Ilminster Press reported earlier this year how Jacalyn, who studied at the British Academy of Floral Art, had qualified to exhibit at Chelsea in the floristry section with a theme of Queen Victoria’s Birthday Celebrations – to coincide with the 200th year since the birth of Queen Victoria on May 24.
Jacalyn and her fellow competitors were asked to create a floral crown and her design clearly impressed the judges as they awarded a bronze award.
“I am super chuffed to have won a bronze award,” said Jacalyn. “I’m feeling very proud to have even won a place at this famous show, let alone win a bronze.
“It’s been a fab experience and I’ve learnt heaps – I don’t do many competitions so I will be trying again.”
And Jacalyn added: “Thank you to everyone who has wished me well and good luck – including all those in Ilminster who kept popping their heads in through the door at Cottage Flowers and offered me books and sources of inspiration for my entry.”
At the front of the striking floral crown is a brooch-like photograph of Queen Victoria and her beloved husband, Prince Albert (pictured).
This has got to be the crowning moment in Jacalyn's floristry career - so far - and should inspire her to go on and create even more fantastic work in the future.
Angie Blackwell, owner of Cottage Flowers, phoned the Ilminster Press on Tuesday (May 21, 2019) to tell us the great news.
“We are so pleased for Jacalyn,” said Angie. “We all super thrilled for her – this is tremendous news.”
