ILMINSTER NEWS: Jazz Night hits the right note with the Mayor

THE jazz sounds of New Orleans were brought to Ilminster on Sunday (February 18, 2018) with the Sunset Café Stompers’ first-ever performance at the Warehouse Theatre.

The band is one of the top New Orleans jazz bands in the UK and the musicians were delighted to put on a show to support the Mayor of Ilminster, Cllr Val Keitch, and her charity work.

Cllr Keitch has been raising money throughout her year in office and will distribute the funds to local groups and organisations later this year.

The Warehouse Theatre was full to capacity for the performance by the Sunset Café Stompers who started out in the 1980s and, although the line-up has changed over the years, has entertained audiences across the region with its New Orleans jazz.

The Mayor thanked everyone for attending the concert and thanked the Warehouse Theatre for providing a perfect venue and for the Sunset Café Stompers for its excellent entertainment.

But special thanks were given to the Deputy Mayoress, Cllr Julie Fowler, who organised the event.

Among the guests at the Warehouse Theatre were the chairman of South Somerset District Council, Cllr Mike Best, and the Mayor of Yeovil, Cllr Darren Shutler.
