CRICKET: Ilminster CC looks back on another season

ILMINSTER Cricket Club held its annual dinner and presentation night at the Shrubbery Hotel where more than 100 players, club officials and guests gathered to look back on the 2017 season.

Club chairman Paul Knight congratulated all the various teams on their achievements over the season and everyone who had worked behind the scenes.

He also thanked all those involved in the ongoing refurbishment and extension of The Shed – the club’s social headquarters at the Ilminster Recreation Ground – which is now known as Ricer’s Shed in memory of club legend Tony Rice.

The highlight of the evening was celebrating the success of the Ilminster Under-19s team who were named “club of the year” by the English Cricket Board in celebration of its efforts in the national NatWest Under-19s Club T20 competition.

Team manager Darren Grinter, who along with club vice-chairman Craig Rice and players went to Lords to receive the award, said it was an amazing achievement and thanked everyone for making the T20 nights at the club so special.

The Under-19s player of the year was named as Sam Grinter; the Ilminster 3rds player of the year was Anthony Millett, the Ilminster 2nds player of the year was Chris Warry; and the Ilminster 1sts player of the year was club captain Sam Spurway.

The Clubman of the Year award, which is always keenly contested, was won by Colin Spurway.
