SOMERSET NEWS: Charity ball coins in the funds in memory of Jemima Layzell

A CHARITY Ball has helped to raise an amazing £14,000 for an amazing fund which was set up in memory an amazing young girl who lived near Ilminster and who recently hit the national headlines.
A Flower Ball was held at Taunton School where Jemima Layzell, of Horton, went to school before she suddenly died five years ago in 2012 from a rare brain aneurism.
On Jemima’s death she made the news for donating her organs which saved eight people’s lives and the sight of three.
And only recently Jemima made national headline news for being the donor with the highest number of recipients.
More than 140 guests were welcomed at the Flower Ball which was sponsored by Cooper Associates to raise much-needed funds for the Jemima Layzell Trust.
The charity, set up in her memory, helps young people with brain injury by providing specialist equipment and funding therapy treatment.
The charity also works to raise awareness for organ donation by holding an annual creative writing competition, judged by their patron Michael Morpurgo, the author of best-selling books such as War Horse.
The Flower Ball was the second biennial event with the first in May 2015 raising around £10,600.
Guests were greeted with a champagne reception in the school’s arts centre with live music from the Topp family.
A fun game of “Heads and Tails” raised £455 with a bottle of Moet sponsored by the Fisher family, while Homme and Femme Tom Ford Perfumes were sponsored by Jane Fletcher.
Hampers and luxury goodies were raffled and raised £770 with thanks to Brown and Forrest Smokery, Spar Ilminster, Tesco Ilminster, Pynes Butchers, Silver Street Dairy of Ilminster and Frobishers Juices.
An auction – hosted by Graham Barton from Homes Under the Hammer – raised a whopping £7,370.
