BOWLS: Ilminster win league and cup double

ILMINSTER Bowling Club has been celebrating after clinching a fantastic league and cup double.
The club beat reigning champions Bath Bowling Club to win the Turnbull Cup on Sunday (September 3, 2017) – 24 hours after winning the league.
Ilminster put in an amazing effort to win the Turnbull Cup with skipper Neil Rowe leading the charge by winning 26-11 over Dale Taylor.
Peter Mattravers won 23-22 over Duncan McGovern, Chris Robinson lost 17-19 to Chris Spurrey and Will Anderson lost 16-25 to C. Ellay.
But their efforts were enough to win the cup for the third time in four seasons.
It meant the league and cup double celebrations could begin after Ilminster had clinched the Somerset Premier League title on Saturday (September 2, 2017) after a convincing 12-0 win against Taunton.
A club spokesman said: “Ilminster have been challenging hard all year to win back this title and with the consistency of team and players’ availability it allowed the team manager, Chris Robinson, to win the league title for the sixth time in eight years.”
