ILMINSTER NEWS: Immense contribution to young people in the town

A COACH at Ilminster Town Youth Football Club has been presented with an award in recognition of his “dedication and hard work” with young footballers in the area.
Steve Garland was presented with a Mayor’s Award on Tuesday (May 9, 2017) during Ilminster Town Council’s Annual Community Assembly at Greenfylde First School.
But Steve was quick to say that he received the accolade for all the coaches and those who have helped to make Ilminster Town Youth FC such a success.
“I love working with the kids and both the teams I work with are a credit to the town and the club,” he said. “These lads are the future of Ilminster Town Football Club and a lot of that is down to all of the coaches at the club.
“This award is for all of them rather than me.”
The Mayor, Cllr Val Keitch, had earlier said that Steve was a local man with a young family and encouraged them in their interests in horses and taking them to shows.
“For some that would be enough, but Steve also finds time to be involved with the youth set-up at Ilminster Town Football Club coaching both the Under-15s and the Under-13s,” said the Mayor. “This season the Under-13s have won both their league and their cup final.
“Steve’s dedication and hard work has contributed to the success of both teams and his contribution to the young people in the town is immense.”
