SOMERSET NEWS: Another icy night – take care on the roads

EMERGENCY services have been warning motorists to take extra care on the roads with temperatures set to plummet again.

It is going to be another cold one on Wednesday (January 4, 2017) and through the night until Thursday (January 5, 2017) morning rush-hour.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Another cold night ahead. Main roads have been gritted, but ice can still form – please take extra care if driving.”

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman added: “The Met Office says it’s going to be frosty tonight so make sure you properly clear ice from your window before setting off tomorrow.

“Also remember, stopping distances are ten times longer in icy conditions. Make sure you drive with extra care.”
