ILMINSTER NEWS: Appeal is lodged over Shudrick Valley plans

THE Planning Inspectorate has confirmed that developers are fighting on with controversial plans to build on the picturesque Shudrick Valley area of Ilminster.

Ilminster News has learned that developers C. G. Fry has lodged an appeal against the decision made by South Somerset District Council on May 19, 2016, to refuse them permission to build 220 homes in Shudrick Valley.

Developers C. G. Fry and Dillington Estate were told that the application constituted a “significant sized” housing development outside of the council’s identified direction of growth for the town.

But the developers disagree having reduced their initial plans of 2014 which included 330 homes.

Now it is expected that an appeal will be heard by a planning inspector in the form of a public inquiry.

No date has yet been agreed for the start of the inquiry, but the district council believes it might not be held until around the latter part of this year.

Campaigners have been fighting to safeguard the future of Shudrick Valley for a number of years.
