ILMINSTER NEWS: History board plans taking shape

FINAL plans for an Ilminster history board to be put up in the town centre have been unveiled.

It is the brainchild of Ilminster Rotary Club and funded by a legacy left by former Rotarian John Storey.

Rotarian Tony Walker, himself the Deputy Mayor of Ilminster, showed off the final plans to the club this week which have been backed by local residents and businesses.

“This has taken much longer than we thought but we wanted to be sure that we had everyone on board,” said Mr Walker.

“I have been grateful for the input received from our colleagues. Now all we need to do is to gain planning permission and get moving.

“I would love to see this erected by the end of the summer as it is likely to be a real attraction for visitors to the town, depicting some of our key events over several hundred years.”

The history board looks back over 1,000 years of Ilminster's past with pictures, facts and information.
