ILMINSTER NEWS: On parade for St George

YOUTH groups marched through Ilminster yesterday (Sunday, April 24, 2016) for the annual St George’s Day Parade.ILMINSTER NEWS: On parade for St George

The weather was great and there was a good turnout for the event which saw a service held at the Minster.

All Scout members renewed their “promises” during the service, while awards were presented to the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts and long service certificates to their leaders.

The groups then paraded through Ilminster back to Greenfylde First School where they were inspected by Mayors and the Scouts’ District Commissioner of the Blackdown District.

There was a prize for the best group on parade and it was a very hard decision to make as the standard was high.

But the shield for inspection was awarded to the 1st Ilminster Scout Group – which was made even more special as it was their 100th birthday.

Helen Lancaster, of the 1st Ilminster Scout Group, said: “I would like to thank all involved in making the parade such a success and that the leaders of Ilminster Scout Group are very proud of our young people.”

Groups taking part included those from Ilminster, Ilton and Broadway, Crewkerne, Hinton St George, Manor Court and Chard.

A similar St George’s Day Parade took place in Chard on Saturday (April 23, 2016).
