ILMINSTER NEWS: Bra-tastic at Hebron hair salon

THERE has been a fantastic response following news that a “bra bank” had been set up in aid of cancer research charities at an Ilminster hair salon.

Claire Hebron, of the Mark Hebron hair salon in East   Street, has been bowled over by the success of the appeal for unwanted bras.

“I cannot believe the response we have had so far, even before we have taken delivery of our official bra bank,” she said.

“In the space of less than a week we have had dozens of bras donated, many of which are still new and in their original packaging.”

Claire added: “This is such a tremendous scheme and in addition to helping to provide funds for cancer research it is great that the bras will be going to Africa for re-cycling, and where apparently they are held in such high esteem that they often wear them outside their clothing!”

The scheme is being run by the Ilminster branch of the Rotary Club and president, Linda Piggott, said she was so pleased that the Hebron hair salon had agreed to act as a drop-off point.

Clair said: “I have had a long standing relationship with our local Rotary Club and applaud initiatives such as this which shows them getting the local community involved in such good causes, not just by donating money.”

Cancer research charities will receive a donation depending on the weight of the bras collected, while the underwear garments will be shipped off to Africa where they are in short supply.
