SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Eight fire engines called out to Crewkerne blaze

A LARGE-SCALE operation has been carried out in Crewkerne following a fire at a property which broke out in the early hours of Thursday (December 28, 2017) morning.
The alarm was raised at just after 1.30am to the incident in Church Street, Crewkerne, after Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received numerous calls from members of the public reporting a fire in a property.
Fire engines from Crewkerne, Yeovil, Martock and Beaminster were mobilised along with an aerial ladder platform from Yeovil and a command unit from Street.
Ambulance paramedics, police officers and Western Power engineers were also called out.
Firefighters discovered the first floor of commercial premises to be well alight and all persons were accounted for.
More fire engines from Chard, Yeovil, Martock and Ilminster were drafted in to bring the number up to eight in total.
The incident is ongoing, although the operation has been scaled down with the fire now having been put out.
One fire engine remains at the scene with firefighters continuing to damp down hotspots.
