FOOTBALL: Cup action for Ilminster Town

ILMINSTER Town are back in Somerset Senior Cup action on Saturday (November 4, 2017) when they play host to Worle in the Third Round.
Somerset County Premier League outfit Ilminster will be the favourites to move through to the next round with their visitors plying their trade in Division One West.
But Ilminster will not be taking anything for granted with their visitors having a good season and currently sitting third in their division.
As the game is a cup fixture and could go to extra-time – the kick-off is at the slightly earlier time of 1.45pm.
Ilminster go into the match on the back of a hard-fought point in Premier League action at Stockwood Green last Saturday (October 28, 2017) which finished 0-0.
A point a piece always looked the likely result before this match between Stockwood Green and Ilminster Town - in fact Stockwood had drawn seven of their nine matches ahead of the kick-off, and with the Blues also hard to beat away from home with five draws from seven away games, most were predicting stalemate.
Stockwood started brightly and had a great early chance when their forward headed over from close range when it looked easier to score.
During the first-half both sides had good periods of possession but lacked quality in the final pass to open up their opponents.
The second period was much the same with both sides cancelling each other out, Charlie Rutter proved to be a handful all afternoon and when he challenged the Stockwood custodian, the ball dropped invitingly but nobody was on hand to tap home.
Chris May saved a shot in the last ten minutes, but it certainly a match where both defences came out on top.
A 0-0 draw was a fair result, with Ilminster as the away team being the happier with another point on their travels.
Team: Chris May, Luke Paul, Karl Davis, Adam Male, Jon May,Doug Whitfield ,Jack Male, Tom Sullivan, Ben Pitman, Taylor Jefferson, Charlie Rutter. Subs used: Carl Lazenby; Charlie Berrington.
