CRICKET: Howzat! Ilminster wins national Club of the Year award

ILMINSTER Cricket Club has been named as winners of a prestigious award in recognition of its efforts in this summer’s NatWest Under-19s Club T20 competition.

It was confirmed on Thursday (September 28, 2017) that from all the nominations from all the counties involved in the competition that the English Cricket Board had selected Ilminster CC as the overall winner of the “club of the year.”

A club spokesman said: “The club would like to thank all that helped make the competition a huge success including the players, club members and, of course, the supporters.”

The T20 Under-19s national competition is more than just about the cricket – it is also about the atmosphere, ethos, media campaigns and lots more.

Each cricket board had to nominate one club from the county to go through to the ECB “Club of the Year” contest.

Somerset Cricket Board voted Ilminster CC due to its “pre-competition Facebook and Media campaign.”

On match days the club was praised for its “music, barbecue, family fun, match commentary and player interviews as well as the famous Prosecco Tent.”

The Somerset Cricket Board praised the club for the crowd it attracted as a result of its enthusiastic public engagement.

“Drive, initiatives and passion for the competition was a huge part in making the Under-19s T20 a success once again in 2017 at Ilminster,” said a Somerset Cricket Board spokesman.

Ilminster CC has been invited to an awards ceremony at the Lords cricket ground in London in early October 2017 to collect the award.
