BOWLS: Ilminster enjoy success in cup competitions

THE men from Ilminster Bowls Club booked their place in the Turnbull Cup Semi-Final after a tremendous fight back against their Taunton opponents.

The Ilminster team had to claw back 20 shots to finally overcome the Taunton side by nine shots.

They will now face Weston-super-Mare side Victoria in the Semi-Final at Yeovil Bowling Club on Sunday (August 13, 2017) at 2.30pm.

Three teams from Ilminster were in action in the County League last weekend.

The A team were home to Victoria from Weston with Ilminster winning on two of the three rinks and by 57 shots to 50.

The B team were home to top of the table Taunton Deane with Ilminster winning one of the three rinks but losing by just four shots.

The D team were away to Minehead losing on all rinks and by 37 shots to 80.

The A team also played a back match beating Bloomfield on all rinks and by 70 shots to 48. This win took them to the top of the table.

Ilminster lost in the area final of the double rink against a very strong Kings of Torquay which included five England players. The game finished after 15 ends with Kings 23 shots ahead.

The ladies are through to the Quarter Final of the Southey Trophy after a three rink to one win at Street.

Ilminster will now play Watchet ladies in the next round.

In the Wessex Mixed Triples League Knockout Cup, Ilminster played near neighbours Chard with Ilminster winning on three of the four rinks.
