ILMINSTER NEWS: Miraculous that bridal shop suffers only a “soggy mat” in flash flooding

BRIDAL shop owner Jean Pas must be thanking her lucky stars that she escaped virtually unscathed in Sunday’s (July 23, 2017) flash flooding which saw water lapping at the front door of her premises in Ilminster.
It was around 1.30pm when torrential rain saw Ditton Street under water and a number of homes and buildings suffered flooding.
The Fire Service was on the scene and quickly got to work unblocking drains and pumping the water away.
But it is still something of a miraculous relief to Jean Pas, of Prima Moda Brides, that all she had to report following the flooding was a “soggy mat.”
With the shop containing an array of fantastic wedding dresses the thought of “what might have happened” does not bear thinking about.
As the picture – taken by Ben Simmonds of Ben Simmonds Photography – of the water outside Prima Moda Brides shows it must come as even more of a relief to Jean that nothing serious did actually happen and it was business as usual on Monday (July 24, 2017).
Jean, speaking on the bridal shop’s social media page, said: “After the flash flooding in Ilminster yesterday afternoon we would like you to know that we are open today (Monday, July 24, 2017).
“We were very lucky that it was only our front mat which was a bit soggy. Many of the shops in Ilminster are still up and trading – so please don’t stop coming to shop in this lovely town of ours.”
