ILMINSTER NEWS: Flooding problems in Ditton Street

FIREFIGHTERS were called out on Sunday (July 23, 2017) to deal with flooding in the Ditton Street area of Ilminster.
The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received several calls from members of the public about flooding inside properties and out in the road.
One fire engine from Ilminster was mobilised around 1.30pm to the problems following heavy rain and further support was brought in with specialist equipment.
A Fire Service spokesman said the flooding involved around 60 metres of road and several properties.
Firefighters quickly got to work to remove the water with a portable pump and helped homeowners.
Members of the public in Ditton Street soon took to social media asking for motorists to “slow down” while driving through the floodwater as their actions were making the water wash into properties.
They said that the flooding developed very fast, while the firefighters soon had the situation under control as they pumped the drains.
It is not the first time that Ditton Street has been flooded during torrential rain and some people have again asked for action to be taken.
